2. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Ayan Mukerji’s romantic comedy stars Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor as young people at pivotal points in their lives. When Naina (Padukone) runs into Bunny (Kapoor), their unlikely encounter results in them becoming involved romantically – with consequences that ripple out to Avi and Aditi (Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin).
This film is an homage to classic Bollywood love stories and follows its archetypal themes of opposite attracts: good girl-bad boy with different philosophical views. Intelligent dialogue and offbeat comedy ensure an entertaining viewing experience while its diverse cinematography of varied locations and stunning backdrops provides visual stimulation.
Glitz is added by the lead pair’s sizzling chemistry, while leggy songs and dance numbers highlight Padukone in her element and demonstrate her talent as an actress. Furthermore, it alternates between realistic stance and more outlandish situations typical of Karan Johar productions.
3. Baahubali: The Beginning
SS Rajamouli’s first installment of Baahubali was an extraordinary film that redefined Indian cinema. While Amarendra is known for being an accommodating ruler who loves his subjects, while his rivalry with Bhallala leads to war between their kingdoms; during which Amarendra discovers that Kalakeya tribe led by Inkoshi intend to invade Mahishmati. Amarendra uses all his skills and cunning to defeat their enemy while also motivating his soldiers en masse.
Prakash Jha’s Raajneeti is an exhilarating political drama which explores India’s murky world of politics with an ensemble cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpayee. The movie proved commercially successful while garnering critical acclaim due to Katrina Kaif’s portrayal as Indu Prithviraj’s widow was met with resistance from certain political parties.

8. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga
Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga was one of the first mainstream Bollywood films to explore same-sex love, opening up dialogue about homosexuality into public discourse. Although stereotypes play an integral part in its telling, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga still manages to tell a touching tale of love and acceptance.
Shelly Chopra Dhar’s directorial debut will premiere with this film set to release on 1 February 2019. Sonam Kapoor and Anil Kapoor co-star as father-daughter characters for the first time ever on screen; Rajkummar Rao and Juhi Chawla will also make appearances. The release date for the movie is 1 February 2019.
